| Along with painting, writing is a natural way of expression for me. A consistent journal writer, I project and continue my thoughts from my books onto the canvas. Sometimes the text relates to the figure, but mostly it is meant to be viewed as texture or form rather than literal words or stories. Sometimes our words are as scary to admit to ourselves as well as to other people. Hiding and running the script together within the composition allows me to have control over what the viewer can comprehend or translate while expressing myself freely. We live in a society where we are constantly being observed, filmed, analyzed. When I write in my journal, I cannot help but be aware of "well, what if this is published one day?" and scarily enough, I will edit. By this admission, I allow my art to hold more truth. These are some recent paintings and drawings. Most are still available for sale. Please contact me if you are interested or to come for a studio visit. My studio (which I share with Katherine Streeter) is located in the lower east side of Manhattan. New paintings have been added 11.27.02 (22 images in total) |
